This picture was captured on the outskirts of Jaipur (Rajasthan) in the year 2005. A snippet of life of a “lohar” (Blacksmith). The lohar caste is considered a sub caste among Hindus. The picture here depicts the melancholic poverty, a child merely 5 years of age looks at the hammer as if her future lies in it and there is nothing beyond it for her. The sombre vicinity and the innocent face represents this and many other austere poverty stricken areas in the country. The world has nothing else to offer these poor souls than a hard earned one time meal and sham sympathies.
